Simpler Times

My first steps into the world of creating were with my sister, Jeanne. While I pined for the commercial Barbie Dreamhouse, we got to work making rooms for our fashion dolls out of large boxes, carpet scraps, and sewing cast-offs. In an era when nothing went to waste, we were pioneers in the world of recycle, reuse, repurpose. No detail was too small for our kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom, not to mention the rustic log cabin. While reports of assassinations and the threat of nuclear destruction were knocking at our door, we crafted our way into blissful storytelling and make-believe. Unperturbed by Love-Ins, war protests, and burning bras, my future self was forged, setting the tone for tomorrow’s problem-solving and fantastic imaginings. My heart is full of nostalgia for those simpler times in the basement playroom with Jeanne where it all began.
